This laboratory is part of the College of Engineering Common Labs Core. The goal of the Common Lab is to provide a high impact learning environment where theoretical knowledge gained in the classrooms is experienced in the laboratory. It is expected that a student completing an experiment or set of experiments will have a stronger understanding of the concepts taught in the theory courses and how these are represented in reality.
The Common Materials Laboratory will enable students to learn how processing affects material properties, how properties influence their designs, and how they can design materials to obtain novel, multifunctional performance for innovative applications in all engineering fields. The Common Materials Laboratory will support students during the undergraduate curriculum by taking them through the full range of experiences from discovering material behavior to making materials that meet requirements for new designs.
